KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Commission for the Coordination of Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine has approved the draft adapted Ukraine-NATO Annual National Program for 2024 for submission to NATO.
“The adapted Annual National Program is as concise and practical as possible, focused on reforms in the security and defense sector. In the field of democratic transformation, there is a clear reference to the tasks that Ukraine is performing on the path to European integration. We have done good internal work, as well as extensive consultations with NATO Headquarters. The Allies positively assessed the approach that we proposed and gave general recommendations for the project, which were taken into account by the Commission,” the press service of Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna said.
The draft program will be presented to the Allies on November 29 at a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council at the level of foreign ministers.
According to the report, the project contains five main sections: political and economic issues, defense and military issues, resource issues, security issues, and legal issues.
“In terms of political reforms, including the transformation of public administration, increasing transparency and promoting an inclusive political process, the adapted Annual National Program is coordinated and streamlined with the reform agenda of the Ukrainian government to start EU accession talks, as well as to implement the recommendations of the Group of Seven (G7), the International Monetary Fund, the Council of Europe, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and other partners,” it said.
In particular, key efforts will focus on the following areas: effective democratic civilian control of security and defense forces; ensuring integrity, transparency, accountability in the security and defense sector; transformation of defense policy and planning; modernization of management and control systems; improvement of the strategic communications system; digital transformation, cybersecurity, information security and information sharing; transformation of the defense industry and introduction of modern technologies; resource management; expanding opportunities for the rehabilitation and reintegration of war veterans.
