KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Blocking of the Ukrainian border by Polish carriers daily reduces Poland’s supplies of Polish and other goods to Ukraine in the amount of about $22.5 million, this was assessed by Head of Association of Exporters and Importers VED Council Serhiy Svystil at the online presentation, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce, of a report on potential business losses due to a blockade.
“The shortfall in income from the export of Polish goods and goods from other countries supplied by Poland to Ukraine amounts to $22.5 million,” he said.
According to Svystil’s estimates, Polish goods directly account for $13.4 million daily, while Poland simultaneously does not receive goods from Ukraine worth $6.9 million daily.
Deputy Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Serhiy Derkach noted that he would bring these data to the Polish side in the hope that this could bring the unblocking of the border closer.
He also said that he received information from the State Border Guard Service that Polish protesters began to approach Ukrainian drivers and ask if they were carrying humanitarian aid or dangerous goods. According to Derkach, Polish protesters allow such vehicles to enter the checkpoint.
“It is possible that there will be such a shift from today that they will begin to allow all dangerous cargo and humanitarian cargo through. But we will see how this works,” the deputy minister noted.
In turn, vice-president of the Association of International Road Carriers Volodymyr Balin said that the association intends to reach an agreement with associations of neighboring countries from the EU, proposing to promptly implement EU Regulation No. 1071 of 2009 into the legislation of Ukraine on establishing common rules regarding the conditions that need to be adhered to the activities of a road transport operator.
In addition, he asked the Ministry of Restoration to open full information in the eCherha system, which is sharply criticized by Polish protesters: the full number of the vehicle when it entered the queue and was assigned an individual queue number.
