Ukrenergo once again accepts long-term emergency assistance from Europe due to sharp increase in energy consumption – company head

KYIV. Nov 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrenergo once again had to attract emergency assistance from adjacent energy systems to balance the increased demand for electricity, said the chairman of the company’s board, Volodymyr Kudrytsky.

“We recorded a fairly sharp increase in consumption, so we were forced to attract emergency assistance from Poland and Romania to balance the energy system, and now we continue to do so. The call for economical consumption remains valid,” he said.

According to him, an increase in consumption was recorded after connecting several hundred settlements that were deprived of power as a result of bad weather.

“Obviously, people began to intensively consume electricity after a long break. We observed similar phenomena last year after blackouts,” explained the head of the system operator.

At the same time, he noted that there are still settlements that remain without electricity, primarily in Odesa region, but expressed hope that with the stabilization of weather conditions, power engineers will be able to return power within 24 hours, at least to the majority of de-energized consumers.

Earlier, Ukrenergo announced a significant shortage of electricity from 13:00 on November 29 and the involvement of emergency assistance from operators in Poland and Romania from this hour until 16:00. Later, the company noted to reporters that it had extended its receipt until 18:00.

Ukrenergo once again called for economical consumption of electricity in order to avoid resource outages.

As reported, with the temperature dropping amid a shortage of generation damaged by the shelling of Russian aggressors, Ukrenergo has already twice received emergency assistance from Europe in the amount of 3,000d MWh in November.
