Demand, prices for Ukrainian wheat growing, in Dec-Jan Ukraine can export 1.3-1.5 mln tonnes of grain – analysts

KYIV. Dec 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Thanks to the intensification of the work of seaports and increased demand, Ukraine will be able to export from 1.3 million to 1.5 million tonnes of grain in December-January, according to the analytical cooperative Pusk, created within the Ukrainian Agrarian Council (UAC).

According to the report, shipments of wheat from Ukraine for export are gaining momentum. As of December 4, wheat exports amounted to 100,000 tonnes out of 1.2 million tonnes contracted for this month.

Analysts note that Ukrainian wheat with a protein content of 10.5% is in demand in Asian markets, where prices remain competitive at $277/tonne for buyers from Bangladesh, the Philippines and Indonesia. At the same time, the cost of Australian wheat in these markets is about $300/tonne.

According to their information, there is practically no trade in wheat in the Danube ports. Odesa ports sell feed wheat at $145-148/tonne, and food wheat at $170/tonne.

Experts expect wheat prices to rise in December and January. The CPT market in Odesa is expected to rise by $3-5/tonne within the next week.

“If the work of deep-sea ports remains stable in the future, then large reserves of wheat in Ukraine will not be formed for the next season. From December 25, the New Year holidays begin in the world, which leads to a rush in many markets. Traders will actively buy grain until December 20, avoiding the pre-holiday price increases,” the UAC predicts.
