Kyiv welcomes achievement at EU summit of fundamental decision on creation of EUR 50 bln Ukraine Facility

KYIV. Dec 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomes the achievements at the EU summit of the fundamental decision on the creation of the Ukraine Facility in the amount of EUR 50 billion for 2024-2027, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“This is a clear signal that the financial support of Ukraine from the European Union will continue. We expect the completion of all necessary legal procedures in January 2024, which will allow us to receive appropriate funding as soon as possible. EUR 50 billion allocated by the European Union for Ukraine will be aimed, in particular, at supporting macroeconomic stability, restoring and modernizing our state, as well as accelerating integration into the EU,” the statement reads.

The Foreign Ministry welcomes the historic decision of the European Council to open negotiations on Ukraine’s accession into the EU and looks forward to the early start of the preparation by the European Commission of a mandate for negotiations and an analytical assessment of Ukrainian legislation (screening).

“It was also important to coordinate the 12th package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation. Ukraine has long been working with partners on a new European sanctions package that will help close loopholes for Russia to circumvent sanctions, as well as reduce the possibility of further financing of the Russian military machine,” the text says.

The Foreign Ministry also welcomes the commitments of the EU and its member States to continue to meet the urgent military and defense needs of Ukraine, in particular through the European Peace Facility (EPF) and the EU Military Assistance Mission, as well as through bilateral assistance from member states.

“We call on the EU to approve the new eighth tranche of aid within the framework of the European Peace Facility as soon as possible. We support the European Council’s proposal to accelerate work on reforming the EPF and increasing its funding to better meet Ukraine’s military needs. We also hope for an early agreement on the mechanism for the use of Russian frozen assets for the restoration of Ukraine, as well as their transfer to the needs of Ukraine, in particular through the Ukraine Facility,” the ministry stressed.
