USA bans imports of fish and crab products of Russian origin, existing contracts remain intact until Feb 21

KYIV. Dec 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The U.S. Department of the Treasury has expanded the ban on imports of Russian fish and seafood by including any salmon, cod, pollock or crab products originating from Russia.

The ban is effective from Friday and will apply to fish and crabs caught in Russian waters or by Russia-flagged vessels and to fish products completely or partly made in Russia, the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said in a statement.

Thus, the ban affects, in particular, products from third countries made using Russian fish or crabs.

As reported earlier, the United States imposed a ban on any imports of fish and fish products directly from Russia in March 2022.

The new restrictions until February 21, 2024 will not apply to any contracts signed before December 22, 2023, according to the license attached to the ban by OFAC.
