Freight for transportation of corn with Panamax vessels from Odesa ports to China rose $10 per tonne in one week

KYIV. Dec 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Freight rates for the transport of grain from the Danube river ports this week predominantly reduced, and from the deep-sea ports of Odesa for the Panamax vessels sailing towards China, the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) has reported with reference to Atria Brokers.

According to the report, as of December 29, the rates for the transportation of corn by coasters with a capacity of 6,000 tonnes from the ports of Reni and Izmail towards the east coast of Greece fell by $2-3 per tonne, to $32-34 per tonne, Marmora and eastern coast of Italy – by $1 per tonne to $28-29 per tonne and $42-43 per tonne, respectively. The maximum rates towards the eastern Mediterranean dropped by $1 per tonne and freight in this direction reached $38-39 per tonne. The freight to Israel ($45-46 per tonne), Spain ($46-48 per tonne) and Spanish Seville ($50 per tonne) remained unchanged.

The freight on the transportation of corn by Handysize vessels in key directions fell by $1 per tonne: to the Mediterranean coast of Egypt to $34-35 per tonne, Italy – to $36-38 per tonne, the Mediterranean coast of Spain – to $37-38 per tonne, Tunisia – to $39-41 per tonne, brokers said.

At the same time, according to their information, the freight rates for the transportation of corn with Panamax vessels from the ports of Odesa, Pivdenny and Chornomorsk towards China grew by $10 per tonne, to $75 per tonne.

The rates for the transportation of corn by barges towards Constanta fell by EUR 1 per tonne, to EUR 19 per tonne. For the sunflower, the rates on the Ruse/Silistra are EUR 25-26 per tonne, just below EUR 26 per tonne last week.
