KYIV. Jan 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Electricity consumption is growing as of Wednesday evening and, according to the forecast, its evening maximum risks being higher than the morning one, NPC Ukrenergo reported.
As she notes in the Telegram channel, for this week today’s consumption level is the highest and at 17:00 is 4% more than the same level on Tuesday, January 16.
The main reason for the increase in consumption is a significant cold snap, since over the past 24 hours the average air temperature has dropped from minus one degree Celsius to minus six degrees Celsius, to which were added repairs at thermal power plants and the inability of hydroelectric power plants to operate continuously. Although, as the transmission system operator notes, the situation during the day was somewhat improved by clear weather, which facilitated the operation of solar power plants.
Additional capacity equivalent to at least three thermal power plants will need to be deployed this evening to cover rising demand.
Therefore, reasonable consumption of electricity is extremely important, including for business and industry, which Ukrenergo calls on in the evening hours from 18:00 to 20:00 to reduce the lighting of advertising, shop windows, signs, garlands, turn off the lights in empty rooms, and also reconsider production processes taking into account reasonable electricity consumption.
As reported, on Wednesday morning, the Ukrenergo dispatch center warned of a deficit in the energy system of 5% in the period from 8:00 to 20:00.
