Ukrzaliznytsia increases length of tracks updated with various types of repairs by 19.6% in 2023

KYIV. Jan 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia increased the length of tracks updated with various types of repairs by 19.6% compared to 2022, to 1,300 km, the company’s press service reported on Monday.

It plans to also upgrade 1,190 km of tracks by 2024 with the help of repairs.

In addition, Ukrzaliznytsia reports that in 2023, with the help of major repairs, 495.6 km of tracks were restored, which is 5.7% more than in 2022.

Average repairs covered 812.7 km of track, which is 30% more than in 2022.

During the year, 284 sets of turnouts were also overhauled, 690 sets of turnouts were updated through medium repairs, 6.6 km of tracks and 30 artificial structures damaged as a result of hostilities were restored.

As Ukrzaliznytsia noted, railway workers maintain power supply devices in proper condition: in 2023, routine repairs were carried out on almost 8,000 km of overhead contact networks on the main tracks of stations and hauls. On the contact network, 217 km of worn-out contact wire, 141 km of corroded support cable, and 697 defective and outdated contact network supports were replaced.

In addition, 12,200 outdated types of contact suspension insulators were replaced with polymer ones. Some 69 sectional insulators were replaced, 173 air gunners were modernized. At traction substations, 18 transformers were overhauled and 31 current and voltage transformers were replaced.

Ukrzaliznytsia recalled that within the framework of the World Bank project, 46 pieces of machinery and equipment were received for infrastructure restoration worth $2.76 million. By the end of August 2024, Ukrzaliznytsia will receive equipment worth another $4.6 million.
