KYIV. Oct 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has banned Andrei Kosogov from acquiring a significant stake in Alfa-Bank (Kyiv) due to the inconsistency of his business reputation with the requirements of the law in connection with the application of sanctions against him by decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) dated October 19, the press service of the regulator said on Friday.
The committee on supervision and regulation of banks, oversight of payment systems made the corresponding decision on October 27.
The press service recalled that on April 15, the National Bank decided to recognize Kosogov as the owner of indirect substantial participation in Alfa-Bank in the amount of 40.9614% of its charter capital.
Alfa-Bank Ukraine, according to the NBU, as of September 1, 2022, ranked seventh in terms of total assets (UAH 111.16 billion) among 67 banks operating in the country.
According to the bank, its largest shareholders at the moment indirectly are Andrei Kosogov (40.9614%, after the war he received packages of German Khan and Alexei Kuzmichev, who fell under the sanctions), Mikhail Fridman (32.86%), Petr Aven (12.4018%), UniCredit S.p.A. (Italy, 9.9%), the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research (3.8736%). Simeon Djankov is a trustee of the NBU on the packages of Kosogov, Fridman and Aven, who fell under the sanctions.
