ST. PETERSBURG. Nov 1 (Interfax) – Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus LLC (South Korean automaker Hyundai’s plant in St. Petersburg) has extended downtime at the plant through December, the company’s press service told Interfax.
"Downtime has now been announced through the end of November," the press service said.
The automaker’s plant in St. Petersburg suspended car production starting on March 1 this year due to difficulties with supplies of components.
Earlier, the South Korean newspaper Tona Ilbo, citing sources, reported that Hyundai was considering selling its plant in Russia. Plans to sell the plant arose due to the inability to conduct normal financial operations. In particular, the ability to transfer money between the central office of the company and the Russian branch is currently limited.
The Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg was in operation starting in September 2010. The company produces the Hyundai Solaris, Hyundai Creta, Kia Rio and Kia Rio X-Line models. The plant’s capacity is more than 200,000 cars per year.
