ASTANA. Nov 4 (Interfax) – The significance of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) has been growing in the context of energy and food security, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
"I’d like to note the importance of the [Chinese] Belt and Road Initiative, in the implementation of which Kazakhstan has a special place. What is more, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, is increasingly important in the context of the provision of energy and food security," Tokayev said at a meeting with foreign ambassadors.
Over 80% of transit through the China-Europe land corridor goes across the territory of Kazakhstan, he said.
"According to the World Bank, the development of the transit and transportation potential may increase the total GDP of Central Asian countries by 15%," Tokayev said.
