KYIV. Nov 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – By order No. 628 of August 29, 2022, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine approved the Requirements for Slaughter of Animals, which were developed taking into account the provisions of Council Regulation (EC) No 1099/2009 of 24 September 2009, and their implementation in the country’s legislation is a necessary condition for preserving the export of livestock products from Ukraine to the EU countries.
As reported on the ministry’s website on Friday, from 2021 the EU requires the mandatory availability of standards similar to its legislation for all lairage facilities in countries exporting livestock products to the EU countries.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy said that non-compliance with the requirements established in the EU by exporting countries, including Ukraine, may cause a ban on the import of live animals and products of animal origin into European countries. In this regard, the adoption of requirements for the slaughter of animals is a necessary condition for preserving the export of livestock products from Ukraine to the EU.
According to the text of the document, it regulates the requirements for ensuring the welfare conditions for animals during slaughter, killing and related operations; verification of the effectiveness of animal stunning; standard operating procedures; requirements for personnel, equipment and premises of slaughterhouses, and other technological issues in the livestock industry.
Ministry order No. 628 dated August 29, 2022 comes into force from the day of its official publication and enters into force simultaneously with the entry into force of law of Ukraine No. 1206-IX dated February 4, 2021 on veterinary medicine.
