KYIV. Nov 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Phytosanitary inspectors of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection carried out phytosanitary procedures for 45 million tonnes of plant products and 5 million cubic meters of timber and lumber.
According to the service’s website on Friday, over 275,000 phytosanitary certificates were issued based on the results of inspections, which is 100,000 more than in the same period in 2021.
According to the Service, an increase in the number of issued certificates is due to an increase in the volume of exports of Ukrainian plant products through land border crossings with the EU across the borders of Ukraine’s western regions after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion into Ukraine and the blockade of Ukrainian seaports.
In terms of crops, phytosanitary certificates were issued for 42.9 million tonnes of grain and oilseeds, namely 32 million tonnes of corn, 5.6 million tonnes of wheat, 1.7 million tonnes of sunflower, 1.5 million tonnes of rapeseed, 1.1 million tonnes barley, and 1 million tonnes of soybeans.
In addition, state phytosanitary inspectors checked 143,000 tonnes of vegetable and fruit crops, 5 million cubic meters of timber and lumber, 1 million tonnes of meal and 800,000 tonnes of other plant products.
"Despite all the challenges faced, the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection continues to provide state guarantees regarding the compliance of Ukrainian products with the phytosanitary requirements of Ukraine’s partner countries in international trade," the service stressed in a statement.
It also recalled that in order to formalize a phytosanitary certificate for the export of plant products, one should contact the state phytosanitary inspectors of the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in the regions, in accordance with the service area and the place of formation of the consignment.
