Not single case known where weapons received by Ukraine from USA get into wrong hands – Senator Portman

KYIV. Nov 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Not a single case is known where weapons received by Ukraine from the United States fell into the wrong hands, US Senator Rob Portman has said.

Portman told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday that before they came here, they were with the 101st Airborne Division in Poland and discussed this topic because they were distributing some aid. And they told about the unprecedented level of accountability, especially in wartime, and the amount of monitoring they could do. Believe it or not, at the moment there is not a single case of a weapon falling into the wrong hands, he said.

The senator noted that both Democrats and Republicans believe there should be more accountability. There are good measures now, he said, but more can always be done in terms of pushing for accountability.

Portman said he had seen the comments of some of his colleagues, and it seemed that sometimes they were slightly misinterpreted. They were saying what Senator Coons and I agree with – that money should be spent wisely, there should be more accountability, he said.

He stressed that helping Ukraine in the war launched by the Russian Federation is in the interests of US national security.

Portman said Republicans should be focused on what’s happening here in Ukraine because it’s in their national security interest that Russia doesn’t win. Otherwise, we’ll be living in a much more dangerous and unstable world. Think about Iran, Taiwan, the Middle East, the consequences of letting Vladimir Putin win, he added.
