KYIV. Nov 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereschuk called on international humanitarian operators not to scatter resources and efforts, but to focus on a few key things that give a real and quick effect.
"Internationals should coordinate closely with local authorities and do what they do well. It may be, for example, that an international humanitarian organization is not able to effectively build house renovation work, but cash support programs are well implemented. Then it is better to direct efforts to cash support programs. It is better to pay people real money than to drown in endless needs assessments. An illustrative example is cash support projects in the de-occupied territories. There, Ukrposhta gives UAH 1,200 from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and UAH 2,200 from the International Organization for Migration," Vereschuk is quoted by the ministry’s press service.
She also gave an example of effective cooperation between the Ministry of Reintegration and the UN World Food Programme and said that in the coming days, this organization would provide Ivano-Frankivsk region with 40 tonnes of food support for internally displaced persons with limited mobility.
The Deputy Prime Minister also appealed to representatives of international organizations with a call to simplify their internal conciliation procedures, "without which the speed of humanitarian response often does not match the challenges."
