KYIV. Nov 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – By November 8, Ukrainian agricultural producers had planted main winter crops on an area of 4.3 million hectares (90% of the forecast of 4.7 million hectares), including 228,000 hectares were sown over the past week on November 1-8, according to the website of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, 91% of the planned area, or 3.6 million hectares, was sown with wheat, 568,000 hectares (84% of the area) with barley, and 79,000 hectares (92% of the area) with rye.
At the same time, it is specified that the farmers of Vinnytsia, Volyn, Kyiv, Ternopil and Chernivtsi regions have completed the sowing of winter crops. Zhytomyr, Poltava, Khmelnytsky and Chernihiv regions are close to its end.
The leader in sowing winter wheat and barley as of the reporting period is Odesa region, where the area under these crops amounted to 470,000 hectares and 181,000 hectares, respectively. In turn, Volyn region sowed rye the most – 18,000 hectares.
In addition, 999,000 hectares were sown with winter rapeseed in Ukraine, which is 104% of the previously planned figures.
Thus, by October 18 in Ukraine, a total of 5.3 million hectares were sown with winter grains and oilseeds, or 60% of last year’s volumes.
