State Food and Consumer Service lifts quarantine imposed in Kyiv region due to anthrax outbreak

KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Main Office of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Kyiv region has lifted the quarantine imposed on October 11, 2021 after the detection of the anthrax pathogen (Bacillus anthracis) in the pathological material of a goat in one of the farms of the Obukhiv district of Kyiv region.

As the regional department of the Service reported on Tuesday evening, specialists took all the measures necessary to localize and eliminate the focus of the disease.

Daily clinical examination and thermometry of animals was carried out in the zone of quarantine restrictions. In the farm where the pathogen was found, mechanical cleaning, disinfection and other prescribed sanitary measures were carried out.

According to the Service, explanatory work was carried out with the population of this community in Kyiv region through the media on the prevention of anthrax in animals.

"Now the epizootic situation in Kyiv region is stable and controlled," the Service said.

Anthrax is an acute dangerous infectious disease of all types of agricultural, domestic and wild animals, as well as people. The causative agent of the disease is especially dangerous due to its ability to form a spore when it enters the soil, which can remain viable and pathogenic for a long time. Soil contaminated with anthrax bacilli remains an infectious agent for susceptible animals or humans for a long time (70 years or more).
