Ex-NBU governor claims refusal of court to allow him to attend court session on considering his detention

KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The former governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Kyrylo Shevchenko has said that the court refused to allow him to attend the court session, which will consider the application for choosing a custody status for him in the form of detention.

"The prosecutor filed a petition with the High Anti-Corruption Court to select a custody status for me in the form of detention (without the possibility of paying bail)… the lawyer filed a petition about my readiness and desire to take part in the trial via videoconference, and also – a request to give more time to process 5,000 sheets of case materials. None of the requests were granted," he wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

According to him, the prosecutor did not provide a copy of this petition and 10 volumes of attachments to his lawyer, which should precede the submission of such a document to the court.

"Copies of these documents were obtained only after the intervention of the court. At the same time, the petition and 10 volumes of the case were received late in the evening on the eve of the court session, namely, the session was scheduled for 8:30 the next day," he added.

Shevchenko said that he would use all possible channels of communication to ensure publicity in this matter.

As reported, NABU put on the wanted list three officials of JSB Ukrgasbank involved in the theft of more than UAH 200 million. In addition to Shevchenko, the former governor of the NBU, who previously held the post of the board chairman of Ukrgasbank, the deputy chairman of the board of the bank, Denys Chernyshov, and the deputy director of the department for working with corporate VIP clients, Olena Khmelenko, were put on the wanted list.

They were notified of suspicion early October, but under a special rule, since the location of these persons was unknown. Since then, the suspects have ignored calls to the investigator. That is why they were put on the wanted list.

Shevchenko insisted that he had taken all the necessary steps to bring him to investigators and, based on this, called putting him on the wanted list as confirmation of the bias and politicization of the investigation.
