IAEA does not detect undeclared nuclear material at Pivdennoukrainska NPP – regulator

KYIV. Nov 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – An inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) found no undeclared nuclear material at the Pivdennoukrainska Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate said.

"From November 7 to November 9, 2022, an IAEA inspection was successfully carried out at the Pivdennoukrainska NPP. The purpose of the inspection is to verify the absence of undeclared nuclear material," the regulator said on Facebook on Thursday.

They noted that the check was carried out with the participation of an inspector of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate under the agreement between Ukraine and the IAEA in connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

As reported, IAEA inspectors, upon completion in early November of inspections at three points in Ukraine at the request of its government, did not find any signs of undeclared nuclear activities and materials,

Ukraine’s written requests to the IAEA to send teams of inspectors were sent after the Russian Federation filed charges of activities at three sites: the Institute for Nuclear Research in Kyiv, Skhidny Mining and Processing Plant in Zhovti Vody, and Pivdenny Machine-Building Plant in Dnipro.
