Europe begins net offtake of gas from UGS facilities; Gazprom requests 42.4 mcm for transit via Ukraine

KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Europe as of Monday has begun net offtake of gas from its underground gas storage (UGS) facilities, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe.

Reserves had decreased by 0.01 percentage point to 95.6% following the gas day on November 14.

Specifically, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and Romania have switched to net offtake, meaning offtake minus injection.

The beginning of offtake season this year was the latest since Gas Infrastructure Europe began monitoring in 2011, with the previous latest date coming on November 4, 2013.

Intensely cold temperatures have settled in Europe, and are expected to peak this weekend. Nighttime temperatures have started consistently dipping below zero.

Therefore, gas offtake from Europe’s UGS facilities will likely only increase over the next reporting days.

The Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine, or GTSOU, has accepted a booking from Gazprom today to transport 42.4 million cubic meters of gas through the country, as on Tuesday, data from GTSOU show.

Capacity was requested only through one of two entry points into Ukraine’s Gas Transmission System, the Sudzha metering station. A request was not accepted through the Sokhranivka metering station.
