Ukraine's insurers cut net premiums by 26.3%, gross ones by 29.7% in Jan-Sept

KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In January-September 2022, Ukrainian insurance companies collected net premiums in the amount of UAH 25.995 billion, which is 26.3% less than in the same period in 2021 (UAH 35.253 billion).

According to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), the volume of gross insurance premiums collected by insurers for the specified period amounted to UAH 26.755 billion (29.7% less). In particular, premiums received from individuals amounted to UAH 16.651 billion, from reinsurers – UAH 880 million.

In January-September, insurers paid UAH 8.636 billion of net insurance payments (34.9% less). The level of net payments decreased from 37.5% to 33.2%.

According to the NBU, gross insurance payments for the reporting period increased by 34.7% to UAH 8.668 billion. The level of gross payments decreased from 35.3% to 32.8%.

The volume of insurance premiums owned by reinsurers amounted to UAH 3.181 billion (2.1 times less), including UAH 2.421 billion (38% less) to non-resident reinsurers.

The volume of formed insurance reserves amounted to UAH 37.540 billion, which is 5.3% more than in the same period last year (UAH 35.643 billion).

At the same time, with an increase in the total assets of insurers by 3.6% (to UAH 67.982 billion), the volume of assets defined by law for representing funds of insurance reserves increased by 16.2% (to UAH 54.473 billion). The volume of paid charter capital decreased by 2.5 times, to UAH 7.633 billion.

The regulator also announced that 58.692 million insurance contracts were concluded in the reporting period (41.3% less).

According to the NBU, the total number of insurance companies in Ukraine as of September 30, 2022 was 139 (over nine months of 2021 – 169), of which life insurance companies – 13 (17).
