Azerbaijan doubles wheat imports in Sept

BAKU. Nov 17 (Interfax) – Imports of wheat into Azerbaijan rose 7.9% year-on-year in January-September 2022 to 744,200 tonnes, the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee told Interfax.

The overall value of the wheat imported into the country rose 43.4% to $262.1 million.

Azerbaijan imported 204,868 tonnes of wheat in September, up 1.9-fold compared to August, for $68.6 million, up 1.8-fold, meaning that Azerbaijan paid $334.8 per tonne for wheat in September. The average price totaled $352.2 per tonne in January-September.

Azerbaijan also imported 248,950 tonnes of sugar and raw sugar, up 3.4%, for $135.1 million, up 20.4%, 92,218 tonnes of vegetable oils, down 1.8%, for $157.8 million, up 22.1%, 10,827 tonnes of tea, down 0.5%, for $55.4 million, up 17.8%, and 14,026 tonnes of butter and other dairy fats and dairy spreads, up 24.8%, for $80.9 million, up 40.9%, in January-September.

Imports to Azerbaijan also included 2,491 tonnes of beef, down 40.1%, for $11.2 million, down 30.2%, and 22,983 tonnes of poultry and poultry products, up 10.9%, for $35.4 million, up 31.1%.

Azerbaijan imported 100,318 tonnes of fruits, up 9%, for $96.5 million, up 11.5%, 21,829 tonnes of vegetables, down 28.2%, for $13.4 million, down 14.5%, and 121,075 tonnes of potatoes, down 2.6%, for $33.5 million, up 7.4%.

Azerbaijan’s exports in January-September included 134,532 tonnes of vegetables, down 6.2%, for $146.1 million, up 2.2%, 183,763 tonnes of fruits, up 5.6%, for $246.2 million, up 17.5%, and 78,215 tonnes of potatoes, down 14.8%, for $35.1 million, down 12%.

Azerbaijan also exported 27,121 tonnes of sugar, down 45.3%, for $18.8 million, down 28%, and 6,574 tonnes of vegetable oils, down 23.4%, for $12.3 million, up 11.5%.

Exports from Azerbaijan also included 7,899 tonnes of fruit and vegetable juices, down 13.9%, for around $10 million, down 10.6%, 190,400 decaliters of natural wine and grape must, up 23.6%, for $3.4 million, up 32.2%, 5,395 tonnes of canned fruits and vegetables, down 7.7%, for $6 million, down 3%, and 5,121 tonnes of tobacco, up 88.6%, for $15.5 million, up 2.2-fold.
