Alfa-Bank, Raiffeisen Bank, OTP become most profitable banks, Ukreximbank, PrivatBank most unprofitable in Sept

KYIV. Nov 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Banks with foreign capital Alfa-Bank and Raiffeisen Bank (both from Kyiv) topped the list of 46 profitable banks in September with net income of UAH 558.2 million and UAH 522.3 million, respectively.

According to data published by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on its website with a significant delay, Alfa-Bank reduced reserves by UAH 646.1 million, while Raiffeisen Bank operated with a profit despite the formation of an additional 667.9 million reserves, respectively.

In addition, if Alfa-Bank’s assets in September decreased by UAH 6.6 billion, or 5.9%, then Raiffeisen Bank’s assets increased by UAH 5.1 billion, or 3.2%.

In the top five most profitable banks in September, there are three more banks with foreign capital: OTP Bank with UAH 423.0 million, UkrSibBank with UAH 399.1 million and Citibank with UAH 390.5 million.

Oschadbank lagged behind quite a bit, which showed UAH 371.4 million in profit in September despite an increase in reserves by another UAH 1.18 billion. It is followed by Universal Bank (monobank) with UAH 222.9 million and Credit Dipro Bank with UAH 178.1 million.

If Alfa-Bank was able to drastically improve its financial results in September after the largest loss among all banks in August of 1.357 billion, then the state-owned Ukreximbank, which then occupied the second position from the bottom with a loss of UAH 1.103 billion, only worsened in September – to UAH 3.5 billion with an increase in reserves by UAH 2.47 billion and assets by UAH 16.93 billion.

The path from the most profitable bank in August (UAH 3.21 billion) to one of the most unprofitable in September was made by PrivatBank, which showed a negative financial result of UAH 317.4 million and a decrease in assets by UAH 20.02 billion with a very small increase in reserves – by UAH 0.07 billion.

Among the banks that ended September with a significant loss are also Idea Bank with UAH 190.3 million (an increase in reserves by UAH 67.6 million), FUIB with UAH 183.1 million (an increase in reserves by UAH 498.1 million), ProCredit Bank with UAH 145. million (increase in reserves UAH 256.3 million) and Alliance Bank with UAH 138.1 million (increase in reserves UAH 86 million).

According to the results of nine months of this year, PrivatBank remains the most profitable with UAH 13.83 billion.

It is followed by Oschadbank with UAH 2.71 billion, Raiffeisen Bank with UAH 2.39 billion, UkrSibBank with UAH 2.10 billion and Citibank with UAH 1.51 billion, followed by three private Ukrainian banks: Universal Bank with UAH 0.88 billion, Pivdenny Bank with UAH 0.34 billion and Ibox Bank with UAH 0.29 billion.

The largest losses in January-September were shown by Ukreximbank with UAH 7.91 billion, Alfa-Bank with UAH 4.32 billion, state-owned Ukrgasbank with UAH 3.36 billion.

The top five unprofitable banks is closed by ProCredit Bank with UAH 1.43 billion and Idea Bank with UAH 0.23 billion.

In general, in the nine months of this year, 44 banks operated with a net profit, while 23 with a net loss.

The total net profit of all banks amounted to UAH 7.37 billion after a net loss, including UAH 1.06 billion in September. However, excluding PrivatBank, the financial result of the banking system for nine months will also be negative – UAH 6.46 billion.

According to the National Bank, in September the total portfolio of government bonds of all banks decreased by UAH 0.24 billion, most of all at Alfa Bank – by UAH 1.97 billion, while at FUIB by UAH 0.56 billion, at Citibank by 0.5 UAH billion, at RwS Bank by UAH 0.46 billion.

At the same time, Raiffeisenbank and Oschadbank increased their government bond portfolios by UAH 1.09 billion and UAH 2.83 billion, respectively.
