EBRD preparing new project with Ukrzaliznytsia, city support projects

KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which provided a EUR 150 million loan to Ukrzaliznytsia this year, will continue to support the company and is preparing a new project with it, which it hopes to approve early next year, EBRD’s Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Matteo Patrone has said.

At the Ukrainian Investment Roadshow conference last week in London, Patrone indicated that the loan would be used to restore tracks and purchase EU-compliant rolling stock.

The EBRD Managing Director emphasized that supporting vital infrastructure is one of the EBRD’s priorities in Ukraine today and noted active work with municipalities.

According to him, the bank is soon going to sign a deal with Lviv, is finalizing a deal with Dnipro and is also working with Kyiv on a large liquidity package.

"And it’s too early to say, but we are also considering supporting front-line cities both in the east and in the south," the EBRD’s Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus said.
