European Commission donates EUR 14 mln for school buses, but more is needed – Ursula von der Leyen

KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the allocation of EUR 14 million for the purchase of school buses by Ukraine, while emphasizing that this amount is insufficient.

"Russia’s bombs have destroyed schools in Ukraine, forcing children to long and sometimes dangerous commute. The EU Commission is donating EUR 14 million for school buses in Ukraine. But more is needed," von der Leyen said on Twitter on Sunday.

As reported, on August 27, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced that the Cabinet of Ministers had redistributed a subvention to the regions in the amount of UAH 753 million for the purchase of school buses, noting that "due to the full-scale Russian invasion, many educational institutions were destroyed, and the buses were destroyed or transferred to for the needs of the military."
