Preparation of tender for extraction of lithium ore at Dobra site starts – Energy Ministry

KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has launched a preparatory procedure for holding a tender for the extraction of lithium ore at the Dobra site on the terms of production sharing agreements (PSA), the Ministry of Energy announced on Monday.

"Processing the issue of implementing projects for the exploration, extraction and enrichment of rare-metal minerals, in particular at the Dobra site [Kirovohrad region], on the terms of the PSA, is provided for by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on stimulating the search, extraction and enrichment of minerals that are of strategic importance for the sustainable development of the state’s economy and the defense capability," the ministry’s website says.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the decision to start the preparatory procedure for holding a tender for the exploration, production and enrichment of lithium ore at the Dobra site on the terms of the PSA was made at a meeting of the interdepartmental commission on organizing the conclusion and implementation of production sharing agreements on February 1, 2022.

"It was decided to create a working group that will prepare terms of reference and recommendations on competitive conditions. The interdepartmental commission, after agreeing on terms of reference and recommendations, will submit them to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval and announcing a transparent competition for the specified site," the ministry informed.

Currently, two deposits of lithium ores are known in Ukraine – Polokhivske and Shevchenkivske – and two sites – Dobra and Kruta Balka.
