Life insurers reduce net premiums by 17%, increase payments by 5.1% in nine months of 2022

KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Companies specializing in life insurance in Ukraine collected net premiums in the amount of UAH 3.475 billion in January-September 2022, which is 17% less than in the same period a year earlier (UAH 4.184 billion), according to the website of the National Bank of Ukraine.

According to it, the largest revenues were from contracts other than endowment life insurance – UAH 2.461 billion (less 10.6%), other life insurance contracts – UAH 862.9 million (less 23%), death insurance – UAH 90.1 million (2.7 times less), to cover reaching the retirement age – UAH 60.7 million (less 11%).

It is also noted that most of the premiums received, namely UAH 3.332 billion, came from individuals, UAH 1.408 billion – from legal entities. Insurance premiums transferred to reinsurers amounted to UAH 80.3 million against UAH 89.5 million a year earlier.

Life insurance reserves at the end of the reporting period amounted to UAH 16.631 billion, which is 23.3% more than a year earlier. Investment income, which is used when calculating insurance rates, amounted to UAH 322 million against UAH 267 million a year earlier. The share of reinsurers in life insurance reserves at the end of the reporting period was UAH 444.9 million.

Insurance payments amounted to UAH 580.8 million (up 5.1%), of which UAH 573.2 million were made to individuals (up 6.3%).

The National Bank informs that 4.572 million people were customers of life insurance companies at the end of the reporting period, of which 1.138 million were insured during the reporting period.

The maximum insurance amount fixed for an individual insured person is UAH 57.4 million.
