Ukrainians to have to live in power outage mode at least until late March – YASNO CEO

KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainians have been urged to be prepared for the fact that they will have to live in a power outage mode until at least the end of March, Serhiy Kovalenko, CEO of the energy supplier YASNO, said.

"Power engineers, despite bad weather, are now trying their best to complete the recovery before even more cold weather. And although there are fewer blackouts now, I want everyone to understand that Ukrainians will most likely have to live in a blackout mode until at least the end of March," Kovalenko wrote on his Facebook page.

He noted that after the order of NPC Ukrenergo on Monday afternoon, emergency maximum electricity restrictions took place, in particular, more than 953,000 consumers were disconnected.

Kovalenko suggested that if the Russian troops did not launch new attacks on the power grid, then in the current conditions of electricity generation, the power shortage could be evenly distributed throughout the country. "This means that there will be power outages everywhere, but for shorter periods," he explained.

In addition, Kovalenko allowed for a return to the previous level of electricity supplies if the power system has enough electricity and can do without blackouts in general if the Russian Federation does not carry out new missile attacks. Otherwise, they will have to use both time-based stabilization power outages and emergency ones, during which there may be no light for a very long time.

"You should be prepared for different options, even the worst ones. Stock up on warm clothes, blankets, think over options that will help you wait out a long shutdown. It’s better to do it now than to complain and blame someone later. Moreover, we all know who really guilty," Kovalenko summed up.
