Ukrenergo head: The biggest challenge for power engineers in de-occupied Kherson region is high density of mine affected areas

KYIV. Nov 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The high density of mine affected areas left by Russian troops in the territory of Kherson region is the greatest challenge for the resumption of electricity supply, Volodymyr Kudrytsky, Head of NPC Ukrenergo, has said.

"The biggest challenge is the density of mines in the territory. There are such areas where 1 square meter needs to be cleared for an hour, and our lines are tens of kilometers. A large number of teams are working – both bomb disposal engineers and power engineers, who follow them on their heels. Work is not interrupted at all, so that where it is already possible to repair, we begin repairs," he said at a briefing at a media center in Kyiv on Tuesday.

At the same time, Kudrytsky said that Ukrenergo is ready to provide as many repair teams as bomb disposal engineers can allow to work.

However, he explained that the company focused primarily on the renewal of the transmission line, which can be restored most quickly and which will provide electricity to the region.

Regarding the situation in the de-occupied part of Kharkiv region, Kudrytsky said that it was possible to resume electricity supply through distribution networks there.

"This is not a completely reliable scheme, but there is one main substation in the de-occupied territory, which has connections passing through the mine affected territory, and it takes time to clear mines. But the situation there is already better than in Kherson region," the head of the system operator said.
