Outage schedules lead to halt in production of Kronospan UA – CEO

KYIV. Nov 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The restrictions on the supply of electricity introduced for one of the largest chipboard manufacturers in Ukraine, the Kronospan UA company (Novovolynsk, Volyn region), have already led to a complete halt in production, the company’s CEO Natalia Pokinska said during a roundtable at Volyn Regional Military Administration.

"Kronospan UA LLC independently reduced the volumes of consumption to the optimal ones necessary for the operation of only one production line (chip board). However, in the current realities introduced by the schedules of electricity and capacity limitations, even this chip board line cannot function," Pokinska is quoted as saying in a company Facebook post on Tuesday.

She said that the company cannot work in shifts or a couple of hours, as proposed, since the production process can be either continuous or completely stopped.

"We understand the difficult situation of the entire Ukrainian power system in the current conditions and are fully prepared to follow the imposed restrictions. However, today business is a reliable rear for the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the fight against the aggressor. Therefore, we must use all available opportunities to maintain the stable operation of Ukrainian enterprises and preserve the economy state," the CEO said.

The roundtable at Volyn Regional Military Administration was devoted to the development of industrial parks and the solution of current problems of the industry during the war. It was attended, in particular, by Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Ivan Lukeria, MP Dmytro Kysylevsky, chairman of Volyn Regional Military Administration Yuriy Pohuliayko.

According to the report, Kronospan in Ukraine was one of the first to register a private industrial park in the village of Horodok, Rivne region, where one of the company’s plants is located. In addition, it successfully develops and modernizes a plant in Novovolynsk.

The plant in Novovolynsk, built with partial financial support from the EBRD, is one of the country’s largest manufacturers of laminated and sanded chipboard and postforming (and since 2020 it has also been producing OSB boards).

The Kronospan Group, established in Austria in 1897, is today a major global manufacturer of wood sheeting. It includes more than 40 manufacturing plants in many countries.
