Global price cap on Russian oil to be approved very soon – von der Leyen

KYIV. Nov 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Union will continue to provide necessary assistance to Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression and is working on new economic restrictions, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said.

"We are working hard to hit Russia where it hurts, to blunt even further its capacity to wage war on Ukraine. And I can announce today that we are working full speed on a ninth sanctions package. And I am confident that we will very soon we approve a global price cap on Russian oil with the G7 and other major partners. We will not rest until Ukraine has prevailed over Putin and his unlawful and barbaric war," von der Leyen said in a speech in Halti, Finland, which was posted on Twitter.

She said Russian attacks on the energy system of Ukraine have the sole purpose of terrorizing the civilian population.

"Women, men, children are freezing in the dark because of Putin’s deliberate and barbaric targeting of the country’s civilian infrastructure. The sole purpose is to terrorize civilians. These actions are war crimes," von der Leyen said.
