Power shortage in energy system up to 30% due to increased consumption, emergency shutdowns in Kyiv

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Power shortage in the Ukrainian energy system is 30% as of 11:00 on Tuesday compared to 27% at 10:00 on Monday, Ukrenergo reported on its Telegram channel.

"The increase in power shortage is driven by the emergency shutdown of units at several power plants on Monday morning, as well as a further increase in consumption due to deteriorating weather conditions," the company said.

Ukrenergo stressed that the overall deficit in the energy system is the result of seven waves of Russian missile attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.

DTEK Kyiv Grids also reported on Tuesday that emergency blackouts are taking place in the city, and the stabilization shutdown schedules drawn up earlier are not valid.

As reported, as a result of the Russian missile attack on Wednesday, November 23, the Ukrainian energy system went into blackout and is gradually recovering. On Thursday evening, the electricity shortage was 50%, on Friday morning it dropped to 30%, on Saturday morning – to 25%, on Sunday morning – to 20%.
