IAEA confirms no undeclared nuclear materials at Chornobyl NPP

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed the absence of undeclared nuclear materials at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) following a successful inspection of the facility from November 22 to November 24 as part of an agreement between Ukraine and the IAEA in connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

"The purpose of the inspections is to check the absence of undeclared nuclear materials. There are no comments from the inspectors," the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine said on its website on Tuesday.

The inspectorate clarified that the inspection of the state specialized enterprise Chornobyl NPP was carried out by the IAEA inspector with the participation of the regulator’s inspector.

As reported earlier, IAEA inspectors did not find any undeclared nuclear materials either at the Pivdennoukrainska NPP or at the National Technical Center Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology.
