Ukrzaliznytsia operates about 15,000 Russian and Belarusian railcars, no shortage – Kamyshin

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – There is no shortage of rolling stock in Ukraine, head of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia Oleksandr Kamyshin has said.

"The sponsoring countries of the war – Russia and Belarus – ‘supported’ Ukrzaliznytsia with their wagon fleet. Now more than 15,000 Russian and Belarusian wagons are working for the benefit of Ukraine," he said during the EBA Infrastructure Day 2022 on Tuesday.

He also noted that according to the program for updating the wagon stock, Ukrzaliznytsia should not have auto write-offs of wagons in the next three years.

Kamyshin noted that Ukrzaliznytsia continues to build scarce railcars also during the war.

However, according to him, Ukrzaliznytsia does not have an actual shortage of rolling stock. There is a situational shortage of grain carriers during the high season, due, in fact, to the desire of farmers to export their products as quickly as possible.

"With regard to grain carriers, we are well aware that there will always be a shortage in November, no matter how many thousands of them there are. But there are no problems with other wagon fleet," he stressed.

As reported, the total number of wagons seized at the initiative of the Bureau of Economic Security is 17,800, and the estimated value of all assets owned by citizens and companies from Russia and Belarus is more than UAH 31 billion.
