Ukraine expects to increase number of grain initiative vessel inspections to 25 per day within one month

KYIV. Nov 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine is working to increase the number of vessel inspections under the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

"We are working to, firstly, increase the number of inspections to at least 25 per day. It is 25 inspections that are needed for the three ports to work stably. Secondly: to further increase the number of inspections and add ports of Mykolaiv region to the grain initiative. And thirdly: to extend the terms for at least one year," Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yuriy Vaskov said during the Infrastructure Day organized by the European Business Association.

According to him, now, within the framework of the grain initiative, on average 3.5 ships pass through inspections per day since the beginning of November to enter the ports and three – to leave the ports. This is three times less than the transshipment capacity of the three ports involved in the grain initiative, Vaskov said.

At the same time, he considers it possible to carry out the number of inspections up to 25 within a month.

In addition, Vaskov said that Ukraine managed to achieve an increase in exports and imports through the Danube region by more than four times.

"Here we have an average of 55,000-60,000 tonnes per day, the actual processing capacity of the region, which will only increase in the future," the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure said.
