France, USA to reduce reliance on Russia in civil nuclear – joint statement

WASHINGTON. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Presidents of the United States and France, Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron, aim for independence from Russia in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, their joint statement published on Thursday says.

The document, adopted following the talks between the presidents in Washington, speaks of a bilateral partnership formed a year ago on the issue of "clean" energy resources.

"The partnership’s priorities also include deepening civilian nuclear cooperation and contributing to a reliable nuclear supply chain… It is also about further reducing reliance on civil nuclear and related goods from Russia," according to the statement.

The document also states that nuclear power "which has a key role to play in order to reduce global CO2 emissions."
