Case on accusation of former Ukrainian TV presenter of high treason sent to court

KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prosecutors of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office have filed an indictment against a Ukrainian citizen, a Russian journalist, accused of high treason and justifying Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office has reported.

"Investigators established that the accused until 2014 worked as a presenter on Ukrainian television and radio channels. During the Revolution of Dignity, he was a presenter on the Kyiv Anti-Maidan, after which he moved to a permanent place of residence in the Russian Federation. In Moscow, he began working on the state-owned television channel of the aggressor country as a journalist. The accused person is covering the events in Ukraine from a favorable angle for the Kremlin, damaging the information security of our state," the ministry said on its Telegram channel on Friday.

According to the prosecutor’s office, in his speeches in the media and publications in instant messengers, he supports the leadership of the Russian Federation and the start of hostilities in Ukraine. "Basically, they were prepared by order of officials of government bodies and institutions of the Russian Federation and Russian media centers," the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

The PGO said that on his own pages on social networks, the journalist discredits the current government of Ukraine, creates a negative image of our state in the international arena, his posts contain calls for the invaders to seize the entire territory of Ukraine.

The former Ukrainian TV presenter is accused of high treason, encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and justification of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 2 of Article 110, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The message does not indicate the name of the accused, it concerns Yuriy Kot.
