Approval of PMB for Ukraine by IMF Board of Directors expected in second decade of Dec – NBU

KYIV. Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Board of Executive Directors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to approve the Program Monitoring with Board Involvement (PMB) in the second decade of December, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) said on Facebook following a meeting between NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyy and Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Matsuda Kuninori.

The ambassador approvingly assessed the achievement of the Staff-Level Agreement (SLA) with the IMF under the PMB.

The parties also discussed issues of assessing the stability of the banking sector, which is provided for by the terms of cooperation with the IMF, in particular, assessing the quality of banks’ assets and stress testing.

Kuninori assured that Japan is ready to share its experience and expertise on this issue within the framework of technical assistance, including work with bad debts of state-owned banks.

The governor of the NBU also thanked Japan, one of the ten countries with the largest volumes of funding for Ukraine during the war, for its unprecedented support.

Pyshnyy also expressed hope for Japan’s support, as a member of the IMF’s Board of Governors, in the next stages of negotiations with the Fund.

"We very much look forward to Japan’s leadership in 2023 in coordinating the efforts of the G7 to provide international assistance. Ensuring regular and rhythmic external financing is extremely important to maintain the financial stability of our state," the governor of the NBU said.

The issue of Ukraine is not yet available ON the website of the IMF in the calendar of meetings of the IMF Board of Directors, which is published until December 16 inclusive.
