KYIV. Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Commission on Wednesday proposed to introduce the ninth package of sanctions against Russia that includes a ban on transactions between three Russian banks and other measures.
"Today, we are stepping up the pressure on Russia, with a ninth package of sanctions," reads a statement by President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on the new package of sanctions.
According to the statement, it is proposed to add almost 200 additional individuals and entities, including Russian armed forces, members of the State Duma and Federation Council, ministers, governors and political parties, political parties and defense industrial companies, to the sanctions list, introduce sanctions against three additional Russian banks, including the Russian Regional Development Bank, as well as take four additional Russian channels off the air and all other distribution platforms.
In addition, the European Commission proposes further economic measures against the Russian energy and mining sector, "including a ban on new mining investments in Russia."
The European Commission’s proposals also include a ban on the direct exports of drone engines to Russia, as well as new export controls and restrictions, particularly for dual-use goods, such as "key chemicals, nerve agents, electronics and IT components that could be used by the Russian war machine."
