Astarta plans to process up to 2 mln tonnes of sugar beets this season

KYIV. Dec 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The agro-industrial holding Astarta, the largest sugar producer in Ukraine, plans to process up to 2 million tonnes of sugar beet grown at its own enterprise and supplied by third-party farmers this season.

To date, sugar factories have already produced 241,000 tonnes of white sugar from more than 1.7 million tonnes of beets, and plan to process more than 200,000 tonnes more, the holding said in a statement on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

In 2022, Astarta began the sugar-making season on September 16, in total, five sugar factories of the group worked during the season.

As reported, in Ukraine, by December 9, sugar beets were harvested from 98% of the planned areas, in total 8.9 million tonnes (up by 300,000 tonnes over the past week) were harvested from 177,000 hectares (up by 3,000 hectares).

Astarta is a vertically integrated agro-industrial holding operating in eight regions of Ukraine. It includes six sugar factories, agricultural enterprises with a land bank of 220,000 hectares and dairy farms with 22,000 cattle, an oil extraction plant in Hlobyne (Poltava region), seven elevators and a biogas complex.
