Spain sends transformers, generators to help Ukraine – MFA

KYIV. Dec 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, in cooperation with Red Eléctrica, a subsidiary of Redeia, has announced the donation of high-voltage electrical equipment to NPC Ukrenergo in order to help Ukraine resolve the problems caused by Russia’s multiple massive missile attacks on the Ukrainian energy system.

Spain will provide Ukraine with a total of 163 units of refurbished equipment in excellent condition for electrical substations.

"The announcement of this donation materializes today within the framework of the conference in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, which is being held in Paris," the ministry said on its website on Tuesday.

In particular, Red Eléctrica will donate 107 current transformers and 28 voltage transformers, 26 lightning rods, lightning protection equipment and two disconnectors, electromechanical equipment that allows electrical circuits to be mechanically isolated so that maintenance work can be carried out. This aid completes the donation of 14 generators made during the visit to Kyiv by Minister of Foreign Affairs José Manuel Albares in November.

The transfer will be carried out through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), which will help to transport of the equipment donated by Red Eléctrica.

The donation also represents an alliance with the business sector, which "has shown commendable sensitivity and solidarity since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, having made numerous donations and making itself available to the government to provide support where necessary."

"At the Paris Conference, Spain will also announce that, after the emergency response in 2022, Ukraine will become a prioritized humanitarian context for Spanish Cooperation in 2023 and the AECID will launch a support program for the early recovery and resilience of the country in collaboration with multilateral partners. The aim of this conference is to coordinate European and third country efforts to streamline donor coordination and provide Ukraine with necessary humanitarian aid more effectively in order to mitigate the harshness of winter and its impact on Ukrainian citizens," the ministry said.
