Kyivstar allocates UAH 55 mln for Radio Frequencies Center to strengthen protection of Ukraine's digital infrastructure

KYIV. Dec 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The largest Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar, together with the Kyiv School of Economics Charitable Foundation, purchased and donated new technological equipment worth UAH 55 million to the Ukrainian State Center of Radio Frequencies to strengthen the cyber defense of Ukraine and counteract information threats, the company said.

Kyivstar systematically invests in the restoration and strengthening of the country’s digital defense. Previously, we have already allocated UAH 300 million to restore the digital infrastructure of Ukraine under the United24 program, of which UAH 150 million have already been transferred to the NBU account," Kyivstar CEO Oleksandr Komarov said.

The release clarifies that the purchase of equipment and the implementation of the charitable project was carried out by the charitable foundation of the Kyiv School of Economics, which has been providing humanitarian assistance to Ukrainians since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Kyivstar points out that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, it has also transferred almost UAH 130 million for the humanitarian needs of the military, hospitals, the elderly affected by the war, and the company’s subscribers received bonuses and free services in the amount of UAH 577 million during this period.

Kyivstar is the largest Ukrainian telecommunications operator. In July-September 2022, the company increased revenue by 5.2% compared to the same period in 2021, to UAH 7.656 billion, but its EBITDA decreased by 10.7%, to UAH 4.391 billion. The company’s capital investments for the third quarter amounted to UAH 1.815 billion, which is 52.5% more than in the same period last year.

The subscriber base in the third quarter of 2022 decreased by 7.1% and amounted to 24.4 million subscribers.
