By KYIV. Dec 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During the occupation, Russian troops destroyed and plundered Chornobayivka poultry farm (Kherson region) of Ukrlandfarming agricultural holding, 4.4 million birds died at the enterprise, and the total damage is estimated at UAH 12 billion or $330 million.
According to the holding’s website, the death of such a large number of birds without the possibility of their disposal is an emergency event, in fact, an environmental disaster, so this issue was raised separately at a meeting of the UN General Assembly due to possible critical consequences.
According to Ukrlandfarming’s estimates, losses from the death of poultry livestock are estimated at UAH 700 million ($20 million), lost income from the sale of unlaid chicken eggs – at UAH 5.8 billion ($160 million), and destroyed and stolen equipment – at UAH 5.5 billion ($150 million). The poultry farm, which played a significant role in the economic life of the region before the start of the large-scale aggression, was looted by the Russian invaders, all valuable property was taken from it, and all other property was destroyed.
The holding clarified that after the occupation of the farm by Russian troops in early March, it was left without power supply, without the ability to feed the birds and bring workers to their workplaces and export finished products, as a result of which about 4.4 million chickens died of thirst and hunger. Some of the finished products and surviving birds were distributed to the local population, but most of the livestock died.
In addition, the actual destruction of the enterprise led to a shortage of chicken eggs in Ukraine, the supply of which on the market has significantly decreased, while their prices have increased.
"Chornobayivka poultry farm was one of the largest and most modern production facilities in Europe. The loss of such an enterprise is a loss not only for the producer. This is a loss for millions of consumers in Ukraine, because the supply of chicken eggs, as one of the most affordable and high-quality food products, has significantly decreased," the report says.
