EU bans its citizens from holding senior positions in any Russian state-run entities

BRUSSELS. Dec 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Commission has expanded the ban for citizens of the European Union on holding leadership positions in any state run legal entities in Russia as part of the ninth package of sanctions, the Council of the European Union said in a statement released on Friday.

"As of today EU nationals will be forbidden from holding any posts on the governing bodies of all Russian State-owned or controlled legal persons, entities or bodies located in Russia," the statement said.

In addition, the EU introduced a ban for European companies on "the provision of EU advertising, market research and public opinion polling services, as well as product testing and technical inspection services to the Russian Federation" as part of sanctions.

The eighth package of sanctions adopted in the fall of 2022 banned EU citizens from occupying leading positions only in several Russian companies. The list of companies subject to this restrictions included OPK Oboronprom, United Aircraft Corporation, Uralvagonzavod, Rosneft, Transneft, Gazprom Neft, Almaz-Antey, and others. However, the eighth package of sanctions envisaged some exceptions from this new rule.
