Dec 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The start of the program for the free exchange of incandescent lamps for new LED lamps in the amount of up to five lamps per person is scheduled for January 1, 2023, the Ministry of Economy is working to complete all procedures with the European Union by the end of the year, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko has said.
"There is a proposal from the government of Ukraine to replace 50 million old light bulbs with LED lamps, we announced this initiative to our international partners, and the first to join this initiative was the European Union, which announced that it was ready to finance the replacement of 30 million lamps for the population of Ukraine," she said during the national telethon on Tuesday.
According to her, people over the age of 18 can come to the Ukrposhta branch or leave their application first on the Diia portal, and then physically come to the Ukrposhta branch and change old incandescent lamps for new LED lamps for free.
Svyrydenko said that one person can change five light bulbs and thereby contribute to the introduction of energy-saving technologies at home, since LED lamps consume 7-8 times less electricity.
"In fact, this is the least we can do to help our power engineers balance the energy system of Ukraine," the minister of economy said.
The ministry said that 40% of the structure of electricity consumption in Ukraine is the population, and the replacement of 50 million incandescent bulbs can save the operation of one 1 MW reactor.
Earlier, in response to the appeal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced at the Standing with Ukrainian People international conference in Paris that the European Commission would finance the purchase of about 30 million LED lamps for Ukraine.
