Kyiv has most difficult situation with power supply in Ukraine due to destruction of 60% of transformers – YASNO

KYIV. Dec 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The most difficult situation with electricity supply in the country remains in the city of Kyiv due to the lack of 60% of transformers due to shelling by Russian aggressors, CEO of the YASNO electricity supply company Serhiy Kovalenko has said.

"There are no changes for the better. Today, the supply situation in Kyiv is the most difficult in the country. There are areas that receive electricity for about five hours a day. There are those who have electricity for two or three hours a day. And there are those who are without electricity at all since the last shelling [December 16]," he wrote on his Facebook on Wednesday evening.

According to him, the city cannot receive power from the country’s power system due to damage to high-voltage equipment.

"The key problem in Kyiv is not generation, but networks. Well, the network cannot work when 60% of transformers are missing. It is impossible to supply electricity to places where there is zero instead of equipment," Kovalenko said.

He explained that the power lines in Kyiv are not linear and "not always logical from the point of view of the map and districts," so the situation when one of the ten powered houses is without electricity is quite real. As follows from his words, this means that this house is on the line with the destroyed substation.

At the same time, Kovalenko assured that power engineers are working on repairs and new reconnection schemes using available equipment, and the situation may improve when the repair work is completed and when these schemes start working.

At the same time, the CEO of YASNO warned that the situation could become even worse if the "remaining 40% of nodes" were damaged by shelling.
