Ukraine cuts steel production by 82% y-o-y in Nov 2022, ranking 32nd in Worldsteel rating

KYIV. Dec 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine in November this year reduced steel production by 81.9% compared to the same period in 2021, to 313,000 tonnes, ranking 32nd in the rating of 64 countries – the world’s main manufacturers of these products, compiled by the World Association of Steel Manufacturers (Worldsteel).

According to Worldsteel data released on Thursday, in November 2022, a decrease in steel production was recorded by November 2021 in most countries of the top ten, except for China, India and Iran.

The top ten steel-producing countries in November are as follows: China (74.540 million tonnes, an increase of 7.3% compared to November 2021), India (10.443 million tonnes, an increase of 5.7%), Japan (7.184 million tonnes, a decline of 10.7%), the United States (6.351 million tonnes, 10.5% less), the Russian Federation (5.570 million tonnes, 9.6% less), South Korea (4.777 million tonnes, 18.1% less), Iran (2.868 million tonnes, an increase of 3.9%), Germany (2.767 million tonnes, 17.9% less), Brazil (2.622 million tonnes, 16.3% less) and Turkey (2.384 million tonnes, 30.7% less).

According to the results of November, Ukraine is in the 32nd position with 313,000 tonnes of steel (81.9% less compared to November 2021). At the same time, in October this year, the country produced 318,000 tonnes of steel, in September – 340,000 tonnes, in August – 366,000 tonnes of steel, in July – 281,000 tonnes of steel, in June – 295,000 tonnes, in May – 308,000 tonnes, April – 281,000 tonnes, March – 200,000 tonnes, February – 1.374 million tonnes, January – 1.851 million tonnes.

In general, in November of this year, steel production in the world dropped by 2.6% compared to the same period last year, to 139.147 million tonnes.

In January-November 2022, the top ten steel-producing countries are as follows: China (935.110 million tonnes, a decrease of 1.4%), India (114.182 million tonnes, an increase of 6%), Japan (82.345 million tonnes, a decrease of 6 .9%), the United States (74.358 million tonnes, a decrease of 5.5%), Russian Federation (65.877 million tonnes, a decrease by 7%), South Korea (60.568 million tonnes, a decrease of 6.1%), Germany ( 34.156 million tonnes, a decrease of 7.9%), Turkey (32.475 million tonnes, a decrease of 12.3%), Brazil (31.466 million tonnes, a decrease of 5.9%) and Iran (27.943 million tonnes, an increase of 8.5%).

According to the results of 11 months of this year, Ukraine is in 23rd place with the production of 6.157 million tonnes of steel (minus 68.6%).

In general, in January-November 2022, 64 countries produced 1.691 billion tonnes of steel, which is 3.7% less than in the same period in 2021.
