Revenue from export of foodstuffs by Ukraine drops by 16% in 2022

KYIV. Dec 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine’s export earnings from the sale of agricultural products in 2022 will be about $23.3 billion, which is 16% less than the same indicator last year, according to the website of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UCAB) on Tuesday.

According to UCAB, in January, agricultural products were exported for $3.1 billion, in February for $2.5 billion, in March for $0.8 billion, in April for $0.9 billion, in May for $1.2 billion, in June for $1.5 billion, in July for $1.4 billion, in August for $1.9 billion, in September for $2.6 billion, in October for $2.5 billion, in November for $2.6 billion, in December for $2.3 billion.

UCAB said that export shipments were significantly increased early 2022 amid a potential Russian attack on Ukraine, which avoided an even larger gap in annual figures.

The largest decrease in export earnings was observed at the beginning of the war – in March and April 2022, after which a gradual increase was recorded until the end of the year, thanks to the establishment of alternative logistics routes and the start of the grain corridor.

"The top five positions of the largest export earnings in 2022 are traditional export products for Ukraine: corn, sunflower oil, wheat, rapeseed and sunflower seeds. The only exception is sunflower seeds, which were previously processed on the territory of Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war, the processing of sunflower seeds has fallen due to the temporary blockage of sea routes, which led to the export of raw materials directly," UCAB said.

At the same time, agricultural products have long occupied a significant share in the country’s export earnings, and continue to grow: in November 2022, this share amounted to 68% of total exports. The main reason for this growth is, on the one hand, the significant interest of the world community in agricultural products from Ukraine, and on the other hand, its excess in Ukraine, which is significantly higher than domestic needs.
