Metinvest masters production of 24 new types of products in 2022

KYIV. Dec 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Metallurgical enterprises of Metinvest Group in Ukraine launched production of 24 new types of products in 2022, including a joint venture – Zaporizhstal, which launched eight new products.

Despite more than a decade of Russian aggression in Ukraine, Metinvest remains the country’s economic and industrial pillar, according to a company press release on Tuesday. The Group’s enterprises, as far as possible, are adapting to new realities and have launched production of new products, including partially compensating for production of assets in temporarily occupied Mariupol.

At the same time, it is stated that the restoration of the country’s infrastructure and the provision of Ukrainian consumers with rolled products is one of the main areas for which Metinvest’s metallurgical plants have begun producing new products.

More new products were mastered in the segment of long products (eight), hot-rolled coils and sheets (six) and steel semi-finished products (six). Also, two new positions appeared in the categories of cold-rolled and thick-plate products.

The main part of the new products was mastered by the Kamet Steel combines and the Zaporizhstal joint venture. Until February 24, 2022, the Azovstal plant has released two new grades of thick-rolled steel for machine building and the pipe industry.

It is also specified that Kamet Steel has begun production of new ingots of four steel grades and hot-rolled blooms of new standard sizes. In addition, the enterprise began to produce a rectangular billet 275×325 mm from modified special steel 30ХН2МА.

Zaporizhstal began to produce hot-rolled sheet with a thickness of 8 mm to 120 mm – this is an atypical product for the 1680 mill, but it is urgently needed by domestic enterprises for production of construction metal structures in conditions when sheet metal from the Mariupol plants of the group is not yet available. The plant also began to supply hot-rolled coils of new grades and sizes for enterprises in the engineering industry, previously produced only at Illich Steel.

The press release notes the joint work of Metinvest’s enterprises to develop a technology for smelting, casting, rolling and subsequent heat treatment of steel for the manufacture of rigid armor elements – personal protective equipment for military personnel, ballistic protection for special-purpose equipment and shields for large-caliber weapons. The well-coordinated actions of different divisions of the company made it possible to quickly overcome the large shortage of bulletproof vests in Ukraine and save thousands of lives of our defenders.

Most new products were in the long products category. Kamet Steel produced seven types of hot-rolled round steel with a diameter of 22 mm to 38 mm, used in mechanical engineering. Also, the enterprise has mastered production of profile MP-4, intended for lining grinding mills at mining and processing plants.
